Fun Activities to Experience in the Milwaukee Area

As the weather gets warmer and daylight hours longer you may be looking for activities to do in the Milwaukee area this summer. There are many attractions and events to experience that are interesting, educational, and fun.

Museums

There are several museums in Milwaukee that offer many different options for you and your family. If you have young children, you may want to go to the Betty Brinn Museum or Discovery World Museum. Here the kids can learn by doing and creating hands on projects. Located in downtown Milwaukee these two museums are a must see.

Discovery World is located right on Lake Michigan and the views of the city and lake are beautiful. Just a short distance away is the Milwaukee Art Museum. Also located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Calatrava offers breathtaking views and the art it enfolds is interesting and colorful. Lastly, the Milwaukee Public Museum offers a look back in time with the Streets of Old Milwaukee, the glacier and prehistoric era, as well as a look at the rich American Indian heritage. All of these museums are a wonderful way to spend a day discovering and learning all at the same time.

Zoo

The Milwaukee County Zoo is located on Bluemound Road and offers a wide range of animals to see and feed. The giraffes and goats are two of the animals that the zoo allows patrons to feed.  Besides the animals, there is a rope course, zip line, zoo train, carousel, sky glider, pony rides, and zoo mobile for people to experience.

Rain or shine the zoo is open and offers several indoor animal displays to get you out of the rain or sun. Check out their hours as the zoo is a must see for animal lovers young and old alike.

Summerfest

Summerfest is an annual Milwaukee tradition that offers a plethora of music and entertainment during its 11 day run. Summerfest begins June 26 and runs to July 7, 2019. The list of nationally known artists and comedians is outstanding. There are 12 stages of music and genres that have people coming back year after year. There is truly something for everyone at this venue.

Summerfest is celebrating 51 years of fun and entertainment. Check out the Big Bang fireworks on opening night! This event is definitely a must see in Milwaukee!

Wisconsin State Fair

The Wisconsin State Fair runs August 1-11, 2019 and is a wonderful event for people of all ages.  The farm animals from all over the state are on display and who can forget the midway and cream puffs! In the Expo Center view aisles and aisles of vendors and projects on display. The grandstand offers nationally known artists every night. Tickets for these performances are sold in advance.

If you’re a lover of food on a stick or fair food in general, you will love this venue! Eat your way around the grounds and enjoy the music at the various beer gardens along the way!

As you can see there is a lot of fun to be had in the Milwaukee area this summer! I’ve only mentioned a few of the attractions and events but there are many more. Check out the parks, the Mitchell Park Domes, a Milwaukee Brewers game and all the festivals Milwaukee has to offer! You will find it is a great place on a great lake! Have fun!
