Ways to Clean Your Apartment for Spring

As the signs of winter slowly melt away, the weather warms, flowers bloom, and everything is new again, many of us feel the need to shake out the dust, open the windows, and freshen the living quarters we call home. A thorough cleaning is an excellent way to get yourself ready to spring into summer.

Cleaning the Bathroom

In your bathroom begin your cleaning by vacuuming and wiping down the walls and ceiling. Dust can collect on them during the winter months causing dust bunnies and towel fuzz to accumulate and stick to them. Be sure to wash throw rugs, bath mats, countertops, sinks, showers, mirrors, windows, and floors. Having a good toilet brush will allow you to clean your toilet as well. Thoroughly cleaning the bathroom will cut down on germs, mold, and mildew harbored in fabrics, faucets, and floors.

Cleaning the Bedroom

Spring cleaning your bedroom is important especially if you suffer from allergies. Dust mites can live in the carpets, sheets, and on other surfaces. Begin by dusting everything in the room, and washing down the walls and ceiling. It is important to wash the drapes, linens, bed sheets, and window treatments. Open the windows to let fresh air in, make sure you clean the inside and outside of the windows, as well as any mirrors in the bedroom. Finally, vacuum, shampoo, or steam the carpet.

Cleaning the Kitchen

The kitchen is often thought of as the heart of the home. Family and friends enjoy making and eating food in this room so it is imperative that it is cleaned thoroughly. Begin by cleaning the refrigerator and freezer. Throw out old and expired food and wipe down the inside of the appliance. Grease collects on cooking appliances, range hoods, and cabinets. Make sure to wash all surfaces, cabinets, and utensils. Clean window treatments and sweep, vacuum, and mop the floors. By cleaning the kitchen thoroughly you degrease, “degerm” and freshen the most important room in your home.

Cleaning the Family Room

The family room is not without its own dust and grime. Carpeted living areas, couches, and other linens can create dust which can be made worse by forced air heat during the cold winter months. Start by dusting the ceiling fans, book cases, and shelves. Vacuum and wipe down walls and ceilings. Be sure to clean window treatments and sofa upholstery. It is important to clean and dust your electronics as well as lightbulbs. If you have a natural fireplace, be sure to sweep it out. Finally clean carpets or wood floors appropriately.

Let’s face it, cleaning your home or apartment is never fun. It is a daunting task, but once you finish spring cleaning you will be happy you did it. Your living areas will look new, fresh, and revitalized. The feeling of spring will be felt inside and outside of your home. Now is the time to open your windows, take in a breath of fresh air, and enjoy the feeling of spring that you have brought into your home.
