Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Apartment

It's that time of year again. Yep, it's time to wake up, come out of hibernation, get some early spring sunshine, and contemplate spring apartment cleaning. While this may be a mark of seasonal passage, and certainly it's great to think about warmer air and the fun summertime activities that are right around the corner, spring cleaning still feels like a chore to me.

Part of the problem is getting started. And that's why I'm writing today. Here are three tips to help you get a good start on your spring cleaning.

Hide Your Winter Clothes

Time to put away the wool sweaters, heavy coats, and extra layers you won't need until next winter. Spring is in the air, and there's no need to keep these things blocking your access to your lighter clothing. You can go through your closets and dresser and remove everything that can only be used in the cold weather. Those winter clothes take up an awful lot of space in and around your apartment so you if you start pulling them out, you'll create quite a pile.

So, as a bit of good news, this process will free up a lot of space for you to enjoy for the next 6 months or so. Of course, you can't just leave all of this in a big pile. That won't help. You have to store the unneeded items correctly. As a first step, get rid of any clothes you didn't need this past winter. Odds are you won't want to wear them next winter either. Once you have gone through the clothing and eliminated those you no longer need, take the ones you're keeping, wash them, and store them away neatly. This way they will be ready when winter inevitably returns.

Clean Your Appliances

If you're like me, you often ignore your oven, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine, and other appliances when you do regular cleaning. That means they probably need a little extra attention. As long as you've got spring cleaning on your mind, this would be a good time to take care of these appliances too. There are certainly plenty of specific cleaners available for every appliance so cleaning these doesn't have to take all day. Just go out and get the right products.

How About Your Window Blinds?

Yes, blinds tend to accumulate dust rather quickly. But during the winter months, you probably don't notice. However, once that spring sunshine appears and struggles to get through the dirty windows, only to highlight the dust on your blinds, there's really no way of avoiding the issue. A friend of mine suggested using a dryer sheet for dusting my blinds? She said that the dust clings to the sheet and picks it up so I don't have to worry about just moving dust around.

Well, it is that time of year for getting started with your spring cleaning. After all, today is the first day of spring. (Well it is as I am writing this, maybe not when you read it.) So get started. If you just get through your clothes, your appliances, and your blinds, you will have a good start. Of course, once you get through these things, be sure to give yourself a nice pat on the back, admire your apartment for a moment, and then get onto something fun!
